Massive 7.3 Tbps DDoS Attack Targets Major Websites

Cloudflare recently mitigated the largest recorded DDoS attack, peaking at 7.3 Tbps, targeting an undisclosed hosting provider. This attack, detected in May 2025, involved a massive data surge of 37.4 terabytes in just 45 seconds. Omer Yoachimik from Cloudflare highlighted the increasing frequency of attacks on hosting providers and critical internet infrastructure.

Earlier in 2025, Cloudflare thwarted a 6.5 Tbps attack, likely from the Eleven11bot botnet, and a 5.6 Tbps attack in January, originating from a Mirai-like botnet. The 7.3 Tbps attack was notable for targeting an average of 21,925 ports on a single IP, using various methods like UDP flood and multiple reflection techniques. The attack involved over 122,145 IPs across 161 countries, with significant traffic from Brazil, Vietnam, and Taiwan.

Additionally, QiAnXin XLab reported that the RapperBot botnet attacked AI company DeepSeek in February 2025, demanding "protection fees" to prevent future DDoS attacks.
